Small Hands, Big Ideas: Year 5’s Sustainable Adventure at Dunia Designs

Recently, our Year 5 students had the incredible opportunity to step outside the classroom and see these eco-friendly values in action during a visit to the Dunia Designs workshop for the “Dunia Experience” tour.

The trip was both fun and highly informative. Dunia Designs specialises in transforming plastic waste into sustainable furniture and products, and our students were able to witness this process firsthand. The children engaged in fascinating discussions about our environmental impact, learning exactly how long different everyday materials take to break down in nature.

Of course, the day was also packed with hands-on activities! The students had a blast playing with various games cleverly crafted entirely from reused plastic. Then, in a special collaboration with Cultiv8, they got to put their green thumbs to work. Taking old plastic bottles, our Year 5s upcycled them into beautiful new planters and proudly sowed their very own beetroot seeds.

As the team at Dunia Designs perfectly put it: “Small hands, big ideas… this is what change looks like.”

Watching our students turn what would have been waste into new life was inspiring. We are so proud of our Year 5s for carrying our school’s eco-friendly ethos out into the wider world, and we can’t wait to see their beetroots — and their brilliant ideas — grow!
