Last week, the Year 1 and 2 students from both Kisongo and Njiro campuses went on a fun trip to Oleresho Trails. Excited and curious, they ventured into the forest, eager to discover its hidden wonders.
As they explored the forest, they learned about the diverse range of creatures and birds that call it home. From the vibrant colours of the birds to the intricate patterns on the insects, there was plenty to marvel at for the children, sketching and drawing the interesting things they spotted along the way.
The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the river. The students squealed in excitement as they say frogs leap into the water, disappearing beneath the surface. They couldn't resist the temptation to join in the fun, and soon they were splashing around in their rain boots, paddling through the cool water.
With the help of sticks they collected from the forest floor, the students transformed into budding engineers, constructing mini-rafts. They tested their creations on the river, watching with delight as they floated downstream. Not wanting to waste any materials, they even turned the remaining sticks into makeshift fishing rods, casting their lines into the water in hopes of catching a fish.
This exciting field trip perfectly complemented the students' classroom learning about river life, science, and the properties of materials. By experiencing firsthand the wonders of nature, they gained a deeper understanding of the concepts they had been studying.
Though they returned home a little muddy and soggy, the students were beaming with happiness. Thank you to Lynsey and Mike again for allowing our students to adventure at Oleresho Trails!
