Our busy and bustling of Early Years provides an exciting introduction to a whole world of learning experiences for our littlest learners! The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) educates children from 2 to 5 years of age and provides children with a solid foundation on which they can build as they progress through school. Children learn through a multitude of cross-curricular opportunities, ensuring that they are developing their social, communication and physical skills in everything that they do.

Children in EYFS receive a holistic, interactive and exciting learning experience through the encouragement of a choice between indoor and outdoor areas. The beautiful outdoor spaces in both our Njiro and Kisongo campuses have a diverse mixture of activities ranging from traditional play equipment and open areas, to opportunities for gardening, minibeast hunting, sand play, mud cooking, sensory exploration as well as quiet areas.

The Early Years Curriculum at BISA is based upon The Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework, produced by the Department of Education (England).

The curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts

All areas of learning are inter-connected and of equal importance. Dynamic child-led themes are used to deliver the curriculum, with specific structures built around phonics, reading, P.E and swimming, music and computing. Strong connections with the Primary school ensure the transition from EYFS to Primary is seamless.

EYFS classes are available from age 18 months to 5 years at both our BISA Kisongo campus and Braeburn Infant School in Njiro.
