8th November 2024
Last Friday, we had our much-anticipated Bonfire Night for 2024. The night was filled with joy, music, and, of course, an amazing fireworks display at the end. Ms Linda, our new Secondary Music Teacher, stated she “was genuinely blown away by the commitment and excellence displayed throughout.” The Braeburn community (as we do annually) all came together to celebrate Bonfire Night. Lots of laughter and cheer could be heard all over the field as everyone including parents chatted and caught up with other families and teachers.
As Ms Linda stated, “their hard work and preparation paid off beautifully” which couldn't be more true. The concert opened with a pop performance from Mio who grabbed our attention with an original passionate love song ‘There’s Something About Her’ which grasped our attention and never let it go until the very end. It seemed as though love was in the air as the BTEC Level 2 band sang their hearts-out to love songs from around the world. Whether it was Omi’s ‘Cheerleader’ or Anne-Marie’s ‘2002’, the audience felt every last lyric and truly became the Band’s cheerleaders. The boarding band ‘Bandalistic’ took us on a trip around East Africa starting with Tanzania’s own “Nitongoze” by Diamond and finishing off with “Sura Yako” by Sauti Sol.
Finally, in the end, over 2500 people were glued to the stage for our BTEC Level 3 band. Despite being 25 minutes long; Ms Linda exclaimed “It was worth every minute of it.” This was truly a worldwide performance you couldn't miss. The Sixth Formers took us on a journey from Zoe’s solo of Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ to the world of amapiano with Bradley’s energetic lead of ‘Tshwala Bam’ to the pop of Beyonce’s ‘Deja Vu’ lead by Faye, Nadine and Cai. This wasn’t just a performance, it was an experience of the world of music and the world of BISA’s music department. The ‘BL3’ band not only interacted with the crowd they became part of it as Shobe (Y13) ended his night with a crowd surf!
Ultimately, their performances highlighted not only “the skill of the students but also their dedication and enthusiasm.” We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year or whenever we are lucky enough to have another ‘Acoustic Session’. All in all, it was a successful night for all those involved and our performers truly shone.
