Alumni Feature: Interview with Enzo Zikuliza

13th January 2023

Former BISA student, Enzo Zikuliza, is producing an animation series based on his journey to the NBA featuring the impact Braeburn has had on his life. Read more in his interview below:

What inspired this series/ why did you do it?

From a young age, I’ve always wanted to become an NBA player, and through this goal and dream that has never left my mind I quickly understood that the Journey is just as, or more important than the destination itself. So documenting my journey can help keep a record of my progress along with inspiring young athletes like myself, to create their own reality if they yearn for it enough - which makes this whole project bigger than me because I know that there are athletes out there too afraid to take the leap of faith. As they watch me take my own leap it will allow them to take the first step in their journey that not many can understand.

When did you start playing basketball and what inspired you to keep going?

I first started playing basketball in Year 3 as a hobby and nothing more. But as the years went on in Primary, my desire and love for the sport grew simultaneously with my skill and talent.  Mr Odhiambo who was the primary sports coach at the time recommended placing me in Mr Masudi’s Junior and Senior team practice, and I began training with great players at a young age which lead me to be one of the best Braeburn has ever seen.  Special mentions go out to Mr Masudi who taught me almost everything I know about the sport and the importance of intent and discipline, along with Kobe Bryant and his mamba mentality that I implement into my lifestyle every day.

Does it have a set number of episodes or is it a continuous project?

This series will be in seasons. Three total seasons with 10 episodes each with high quality and masterful storytelling. After these three seasons are complete I am more than confident that I will be bordering my goal and achieving things that I used to visualise.

How has Braeburn supported me and and how can we continue to do so?

Braeburn has played an outstanding role in my Academic and Extracurricular development. To be more specific, it’s Mr Masudi that instilled discipline, teamwork and obsession into me and my other teammates. I am sure he will continue to do so for the young ones with big dreams. Keep doing what you are doing, Braeburn!

When the episode's launch I hope you can identify the athletes or visionaries at school and give them access to watch it and learn from my journey. Planting seeds early so the work can begin for an abundant harvest.

My message to anybody who has a dream life they want to reach/create?

This is who I am. I go after what I love to do and I will give it my all by any means possible. It’s all in or nothing. Stay focused and don’t let anyone shoot your dreams and potential down. Do not give up until you have exhausted all the possible systems to make it work. Which simply means you can never give up. But have a plan and get to work. See you at the top.
