Be Kind Day

24th January 2023

Be kind. Uwe Mwema. Etre gentil.

What replenishes our society most is our acts of kindness, what upholds the roots of Tanzanian culture is our kind hearts, and what separates Braeburn students from others is the kindness fostered in our hallways.

On Monday, January 23rd, 2023, we celebrated Be Kind Day!

Students had the opportunity to dress up in different colours to support various social justice causes, from black in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter campaign, white for World Peace and Security, pink for Breast Cancer Awareness, and yellow for standing in solidarity against Domestic Violence.

As the future generation of leaders, artists, engineers, and veterinarians, I witnessed firsthand the robust power we have to make a change! The power we gain from being kind.

As the pioneering Amelia Earhart said, 'a single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.'

By simply dressing up in different colours, we turned our school into a platform to fight for social justice causes! A forum where students, teachers, and members of staff, could participate in making our society a safer and kinder place. How? Each social justice cause we dress up for substantially impacts our lives. Although we may not face these issues firsthand, youth our age around the globe faces some of these issues daily.

The beauty of being kind is that kindness travels beyond borders and graces the soul of every person it meets. Kindness does not discriminate.

Together, we can utilise kindness to make a difference in many people's lives.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of my day was walking to lunch and watching a group of Year Eight students linked side by side, bega kwa bega, all dressed in white. The harmonious melody of their laughter and radiant smiles reminded me of the beauty of unity and the power of kindness. Five girls side by side standing up for world peace and security, five girls making a difference. Five girls being kind.

Being kind shapes our society, and I am privileged to be part of a community that spreads kindness daily and a country that values kindness above all.

Remember to always be kind.
