This week, BISA has welcomed 14 volunteers from Bhubesi Pride Foundation (BPF) who are in Arusha to coach rugby with seven local primary schools. Each year, BFP carries out annual coaching expeditions, supporting rugby and community development in nine countries across East and Southern Africa, and in 2017, Tanzania is their third stop.
During BPF’s stay, students from BISA’s BTEC Sports department have had the opportunity to learn from volunteers. Pride member Sebastian, from Germany, led a theoretical class about how to plan an effective rugby coaching session, and then involved the students in a practical, which involved coaching 60 children.
To showcase the different career opportunities available in the sports industry, BPF Media Producer Ali, from Scotland, talked to the students about his role, which involves taking photographs, recording and creating videos and managing the charity’s social media strategy. Pride member Jo, from Australia, also discussed her responsibilities as Communications and Liaison Officer, such as writing BPF’s blog, providing information to media and helping to manage relationships with key stakeholders.
Next week, BPF are travelling to Moshi, where the students will be joining them to continue to gain experience coaching. For more information about BPF, visit http://rugbyinafrica.org/.
