Oh, what a day! BISA was transformed into a wonderland of literary delight as we celebrated World Book Day. From our youngest EYFS bookworms to our seasoned Year 6 readers, the entire school was swept up in a whirlwind of excitement, laughter, and learning.
The day began with a burst of colour and creativity as children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. Brave knights stood shoulder-to-shoulder with whimsical fairies, adventurous pirates exchanged stories with beloved storybook creatures, bringing the magic of books to life!
Our EYFS children were filled with giggles as teachers brought "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" to life with a hilarious and interactive performance. It was a joy to see so many parents sharing this special moment with their little ones. And all of this magic unfolded in our beautiful Boarding House gardens, under the cool shade of the trees, creating a truly enchanting setting for our youngest readers.
Meanwhile, our Primary students were treated to an inspiring visit from not one, but two incredible authors! Narindwa Matikanya, who published her first book at the astonishing age of 14, shared her journey with Year 1, 2, and 3, reminding them that "Anyone can be a writer!" Christelle Zami, author of the captivating Ami series, then led a wonderfully creative workshop with our Year 4, 5, and 6 students, sparking their imaginations and empowering them to embrace the power of storytelling.
The excitement continued with a whirlwind of activities. A costume parade for EYFS showcased everyone's creativity, story time adventures transported us to far-off lands, and author meet-and-greets provided a glimpse into the world of writing. In the library, students could choose a "Blind Date with a Book," choosing their literary companions based on intriguing cover descriptions. And who could forget the grand finale – the Big Book Quiz, where our Year 4, 5, and 6 teams battled it out with their impressive literary knowledge!
Of course, orchestrating such an event with 170 children plus their enthusiastic parents from both campuses was no small feat! It was a bit like herding excited, book-loving cats, but amidst the joyful chaos, everything magically came together. A huge thank you to all our staff for their invaluable help in making the day run smoothly.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a delightful "Very Hungry Caterpillar's Transformation" display graced the Primary Library, a World Book Day Photobooth captured all those amazing costumes, and plenty of refreshments and snacks kept everyone energised throughout the day.
World Book Day at BISA was a celebration of the joy of reading and the power of stories. We hope it has inspired our students to continue their reading adventures and discover new worlds within the pages of a book. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special!
