"We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men." - Herman Melville
At BISA, our Global Citizenship and Intercultural Learning encompasses all aspects of community service, leadership, ethics and diversity. Community service is all about building empathy. At BISA we strive to educate children to be more aware of their community and surroundings. Being kind, compassionate and caring. We believe that when children get involved in serving those around them they invest in their community.
Our KS1 EarlyAct Club, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Arusha, chose a special project this year to support new mothers in Arusha by creating Baby Boxes for new mamas in need, filled with everything they may need for themselves and their baby in the first weeks and months of life. The children came up with a list of their own ideas, with guidance from a midwife, of what was needed.
They involved the wider school community in collecting donations as well as a 'Lishe Unga Baby' event. We got together a school community last Friday to donate a total of 22 Baby Boxes and two overflowing boxes of lishe unga to St Elizabeth's hospital. Midwife Caroline and Rotary Members Harkiran and Amir joined the students to accept the donations on behalf of the hospital.
We would like to thank our parents for their kind and generous donations. We value your support in raising your children to be empathetic, showing them these values in action can be more effective. Additionally, thank you to all who donated lishe unga! These donations will go a long way to support new mothers in the early weeks of motherhood!
