Last term, a new brick-laying and construction class started at BISA. The class has four dedicated members: Tevin, Kiseli, Mark, and Joshua - eager to learn the basics of brick-laying and construction. Every Tuesday, these students gather for a flexible learning session where they focus on mastering essential skills such as identifying the tools required for brick-laying and understanding how to safely use them effectively.
The main focus of the class is to ensure that its members are equipped with practical and applicable knowledge that will serve them well in navigating the complexities of real-world construction projects in the future.
To kick off the class, the members decided to make their own first bricks as a symbolic gesture marking the beginning of their learning journey. This hands-on activity allowed them to get a feel for the materials and techniques involved in brick making, laying a solid foundation for their future projects.
Looking ahead, the group has set an ambitious goal for itself - by the end of the year, to undertake a proper brick-laying project that will benefit either the school or the community nearby. This project will allow the members to put their newly acquired skills to the test and make a tangible impact on their surroundings.
The brick-laying and construction class is an example of the power of hands-on, experiential learning and teamwork. By providing a platform for students to explore practical skills in a supportive environment, the class is not only fostering creativity and teamwork but also empowering its members to become capable builders and problem solvers.
