This week, our Crèche children had a fantastic time creating a pretend farm in our outdoor sandpit area! Using garden tools and natural materials, they worked together to enclose their farm by building fences and even making muddy puddles for their animals. Inspired by the song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," the children brought the lyrics to life through their imaginative play.
This activity supported their development in several ways, linking directly to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for 2- to 3-year-olds. It encouraged Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) as the children collaborated, shared tools, and expressed their ideas with peers. It also supported Physical Development, as they dug in the soil, handled tools, and engaged in gross and fine motor activities. Additionally, through the creation of fences and discussions about farm animals, they explored concepts of Understanding the World, learning about animals, their environments, and the natural world.
The children thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on activity while developing their creativity, social skills, and problem-solving abilities. Why not continue the fun at home by singing "Old MacDonald" together or exploring your garden with your little ones?
