EYFS and Primary Bike Days: A Whirlwind of Wheels and Wins!

30th January 2025

You'd be forgiven for thinking you'd stumbled into a Dutch bicycle festival last week! Our walkways were a veritable sea of two-wheels, and the air was filled with the sounds of laughter, encouragement, and the occasional wobble. From tiny tots on trikes to seasoned cyclists tackling kilometres, this week was all about pedal power.

The fun kicked off on Thursday with our EYFS and KS1 Bike Day at the Njiro Campus. It was a joyous explosion of pedal-powered fun as everyone came together for a morning of cycling adventures, some wobbling adorably, others already showing impressive speed, all united by the joy of two wheels (or three, in some cases!). And adding to the fun, we had a fantastic turnout of parents who joined in the cycling alongside their children, creating a real community atmosphere. The atmosphere was filled with cheers and giggles echoing across the campus. Even the teachers couldn't resist joining in the fun!

Then, on Friday, the action moved to the Kisongo Campus for our KS2 Bike Day. These slightly older cyclists tackled a more challenging 5km route through the surrounding areas of Kisongo and Mateves, showcasing incredible resilience and a positive attitude that would put any Tour de France champion to shame. Again, we were delighted to have parents join us on the ride, offering encouragement and support along the way. The route tested their stamina and determination, but they rose to the challenge with smiles on their faces (and maybe a few tired legs by the end!).

But the real stars of both days were the risk-takers who dared to hop on a bike for the very first time. Witnessing their transformation from wobbly beginners to confident cyclists was amazing! One particular highlight was a child who, after struggling to balance earlier in the week, confidently zipped around the hardcourt circuit. These "tiny wins," the moments of overcoming fear and mastering a new skill, were what made the week so special. A huge thank you goes to all the parents who came out to support our young cyclists – your presence made both days even more memorable!

We can't wait for next year!
