Fun on the Farm for Key Stage 1!

1st June 2023

Year 1/2 young scientists!

What better way to learn about the wonders of nature and where our food comes from than by embarking on a thrilling farm trip? Recently, the students of Year 1/2 had the opportunity to visit a local farm, Oljoro Plantations Ltd., a family-owned farm, and it was an adventure filled with discovery, joy, and valuable lessons.

As the eager children hopped off the school bus, they were greeted by the crisp air, the sweet scent of fresh grass, flowers, and the sound of chirping birds and noisy farm animals. The farm, nestled in the countryside, stood as a living classroom, ready to unveil its secrets.

Under the guidance of knowledgeable farmers, the students began their journey through various sections of the farm. Their first stop was the flower fields, and vegetable garden, where they marvelled at the vibrant colours and diversity of crops growing in neat rows. They toured the vast fields, feeling the wind on their faces as they admired the magnificent fields or flowers swaying in the breeze.

With curiosity sparkling in their eyes, the children learned about the importance of soil, the role of sunlight and water, and the wonders of pollination. They even got their hands dirty as they planted their own strawberry plants. Exploring tractors and farm equipment was the highlight, as they learned about the different parts and uses.

Next, it was time to meet the animals that call the farm their home. The moment the kids entered the sheds and pens and were welcomed by the amiable farm animals, they were unable to contain their excitement. They laughed as they petted fluffy rabbits, fed calves, marvelled at the gentle goats, and stood in awe as the friendly donkey approached them. Every question was patiently answered by the farmers, who shed light on the animals' needs, their role in providing us with food, and the importance of treating them with love and respect.

One of the highlights of the farm trip was the tractor ride. With wide eyes and laughter filling the air, the children hopped on the tractor and trailer and embarked on a bumpy but thrilling adventure. It was a magical experience that brought them closer to nature and instilled a sense of gratitude for the hard work that goes into bringing food to our tables. We need FARMERS.

We would like to thank the Travas family for sharing their farming life and world with us.
