When people ask me what it is I love about teaching geography my reply is what is not to love? Geography is the world around us, how we interact with the environment and with each other; from living next to a dormant volcano in Arusha, to trying to understand how the world is so interlinked through trade and communication.
The Geographical Association puts it better than me…
“Geography helps us investigate and to think critically and creatively about the complexities of places, and different views and feelings relating to places.”
Here is the array of topics we are studying this half term!
In Year 7 we are investigating how Hurricanes and tornadoes are formed and what damage do they cause.
Year 8s are studying energy- where does it come from, how we use it and what happens when it runs out!
Year 9 students are investigating the rise of China- from its physical features through to its huge population and the Once Child Policy
IGCSE students in Year 10 are focusing on water supply and demand and will be carrying out river fieldwork at the end of the term.
The Year 11s are at the end of their course and the final topic is Tourism and the impact that it has on the world.
Year 12/13 are also about to finish their course with the study of trade debt and aid and how the world is interconnected.
As I say…. What’s not to love?!
