On the 24th of May, Y7s and 8s put on the KS3 musical ‘Wicked’ at our Kisongo Campus. Wicked tells the story of the complicated friendship between two unlikely friends – Elphaba, played by Nthati Makong & Laika Mongare and Glinda played by Charlotte Cox and Annabelle Weston. The musical focuses on Elphaba, the misunderstood, green-skinned girl and Glinda, the bubbly and popular girl. The two meet as students at Shiz University and start out as fierce rivals but eventually form a deep friendship. Their contrasting personalities and values lead them down very different paths, shaped by love, politics, and personal integrity.
Our young creatives worked tirelessly for a week to put on the best show possible. It was all hands on deck with students learning lines, choreographies, harmonies, lyrics, making props, designing the set and organising back stage. The tight schedule required the cast to be focused, engaged, committed and most of all, open to unlocking their potential as performers and having fun.
The show featured great story-telling, colourful costumes, uncanny transformations, unique dance sequences and a ground shaking singing solo to close the show. This display left audience members thinking that no matter your differences and the odds that are against you, holding you back, you have the power to stand up and defy gravity!
