Parent-teacher consultations are a valuable opportunity to build partnerships between parents and teachers, ensuring that children receive the best possible support. By approaching these meetings in a positive and collaborative spirit, parents and teachers can work together to create a supportive learning environment for their children.

Before the meeting

  • Take some time to think about your child's progress. What are their strengths? What areas are they finding challenging? What are your hopes for their development?
  • Prepare any questions you have for your child's teacher. These could be about specific areas of the curriculum, your child's social and emotional development, or any concerns you may have.
  • Gather any relevant information that you think might be helpful. This could include reports from other professionals, such as speech and language therapists or educational psychologists.

During the meeting

  • Be open and receptive to the teacher's feedback. Remember our teachers are experts in child development and have a wealth of knowledge about your child's learning.
  • Ask clarifying questions if you don't understand something. Our teachers will be happy to explain anything in more detail.
  • Share your own observations about your child. This can help our teachers gain a more rounded view of your child's development.
  • Work together to develop a plan of action. This could involve setting targets for your child's progress, identifying areas where they need additional support, or agreeing on strategies to help them overcome any challenges.

After the meeting

  • Follow up on any agreed actions. This could involve making changes to your child's home learning routine or seeking additional support from the school.
  • Keep the lines of communication open with our teachers. If you have any concerns or questions, don't hesitate to contact them.

Within our Primary section of BISA, parent-teacher consultations are booked via Google Calendar. This allows for a streamlined and efficient booking process, ensuring that parents are able to secure appointments with their child's teachers at their earliest convenience. Check your email inbox!

Consultations can be held in person or virtually. In-person consultations will take place in your child's classroom, while virtual consultations will be conducted via Google Meet or Zoom. Parents can choose the format that best suits their needs and schedule.

Each consultation is scheduled to last for approximately 10-15 minutes. This allows for a focused discussion on your child's progress and development. If you feel you might require a longer appointment, please arrange a separate time with the teacher so as not to disrupt other parent appointments.

We encourage parents to take full advantage of parent-teacher consultations. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's learning, ask questions, and gain insights into their progress. By working together in partnership, parents and teachers can create a supportive learning environment to help their children thrive.
