Music Keys Recital 2023

24th March 2023

We are happy to share with you the splendour of the Music Keys Recital that happened on Thursday 23rd 2023. From year 4 to year 9, our young and gifted students performed on stage, captivating the audience with their amazing performances on a variety of musical instruments like the guitar, violin, piano, recorder, and clarinet.

Romance d'amour, Despacito, and Stuck On You, among other well-known and fan-favourite songs, were performed in the recital, which was nothing less than a spectacular musical extravaganza that captivated the audience's hearts and souls. The song medley represented several generations and musical styles, from classical to pop, demonstrating the wide range of musical preferences.

Music Keys was introduced at BISA in 2015. This one-of-a-kind, innovative and exciting programme gives all students from Year 4 to Year 8 the opportunity to learn a musical instrument as part of their school curriculum. Through the Music Keys programme, students learn an instrument and practise every day as part of the school curriculum. Every child is given an opportunity to choose a musical instrument (either violin, piano, guitar or recorder/clarinet) to learn over the course of the programme. The students participate in both private and group lessons. Each student is placed at an appropriate level based on ability, as well as matched with a private instructor. They meet with their private instructor every week for 15 minutes. Each instrument-level group then meets for practice, review and ensemble sessions every Monday-Thursday for 15 minutes, thus ensuring that students participating in this programme develop not only their musical understanding but also their academic learning, peer interactions and responsibility.

Our young performers put in countless hours of work and showed their unrelenting commitment to putting on a performance that was nothing short of amazing.

We are proud that the Music Keys Recital highlighted the many benefits of music as well as entertainment. It's a great way to encourage creativity, discipline and teamwork in children, and shows that young musicians have the talent and passion to make their dreams come true.

We hope young artists continue to inspire us and keep the spirit of music alive. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future to showcase the best young talent our community has to offer.

Figures show that students who study music are more successful on standardised tests and are also likely to achieve better grades. Music positively impacts a child’s academic performance, assists in developing social skills, and provides an outlet for creativity that is crucial to a child’s development. Music education can catapult a child’s learning to new heights, and because of this, it should always be considered a pivotal part of a child’s education. Here at BISA, we see the benefits on a daily basis and we couldn't be prouder of our young musicians!
