The excitement for Year 4's trip to the Twende workshop in Njiro started brewing even earlier than usual! The day before their visit, they were surprised by a special guest in their classroom - their very own head teacher, Ms. Logan! It turns out Ms. Logan has a hidden talent: she's a flautist!
Ms. Logan's visit wasn't just to wish them well on their trip. To everyone's delight, she brought in her collection of Vietnamese bamboo flutes and gave a captivating demonstration, sparking the students' imaginations. Ms. Logan didn't stop there – she even gave every child a chance to try their hand (or should we say, lips?) at playing the flute. They quickly discovered that creating beautiful music takes practice and a delicate touch!
With newfound appreciation for the complexities of wind instruments, Year 4 arrived at the Twende workshop buzzing with anticipation. Twende, an organisation dedicated to community development through innovation and repurposed materials, was the perfect place to put their musical inspiration to the test. Throughout the day, the students transformed simple materials like plastic pipes and wooden dowels into their very own flutes. It was a fantastic learning experience, filled with opportunities to practice measuring accurately, using tools safely, and of course, fostering creativity.
The culmination of their efforts came when the students proudly played the Tanzanian National Anthem on their handmade instruments. The melody, though perhaps a little wobbly at times, resonated with pride and accomplishment. Every visit to Twende brings new skills and problem-solving challenges, nurturing the students' inner inventors. As Ms. Logan's surprise visit so perfectly illustrated, learning can be both enriching and fun, and Twende sure knows how to make it an unforgettable adventure!
