We all tried our best and we did it! Hongereni sana!
Once again our Year 4, 5 and 6 students took the next step in their Kiswahili language journey this week, completing their language proficiency examinations at MS-TCDC.
The adapted ACTFL certificate (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) is the result of lots of hard work from BISA and MS-TCDC to ensure a tailored curriculum, individualised attention and the right exam provision for students in Y4 to Y8.
This certificate is the first of it's kind in the whole of Tanzania and we are delighted that our students are continuing to take on this challenge with such enthusiasm and excitement.
BISA continues to lead the way in keeping up to date with the importance of the Swahili language in and out of the country. With its origin in East Africa, Swahili speakers spread over more than 14 countries: Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Comoros, and as far as Oman and Yemen in the Middle East! The Embassy of Tanzania in France, in partnership with the Association of the Tanzanian Diaspora Living in France, has also introduced a programme to teach Kiswahili as a way of promoting the language overseas.
In fact, learning language is an innate process babies are born knowing how to do. Interestingly, all children, no matter which language their parents speak, learn a language in the same way. In Early Years, even our creche class loves their Swahili session, storytime, and games! Look at these happy language learners!
