Our Two-Day Hike to Little Meru

22nd May 2025

Every second of our two-day ride to Little Meru is unforgettable. It was fun in two camps with an amazing view and lovely food. We were surrounded by nature trees, stinging nettle, poop and everything you’d expect to see on a jungle. It all felt so magical like we were in Vampire Diaries or something. This was no walk in the park.

The first day felt the hardest as the hike felt never-ending. The trail was slippery while the weather was always changing. It was tough to power through the exhaustion. Our legs were soft and struggling. Even descending the mountains became a challenge as our legs turned to jelly and our nails black.

Ending the hike without the assistance of porters and guides would’ve been impossible. Their support was invaluable and we owe them a major thank you. We probably would have gotten stuck in the mud without a way out. All the breaks were so so so good and rewarding that some people decided not to rest because if they did they wouldn’t want to get up.

Getting to the camp was the second best part, getting to sit down but not on the floor, having warm meals and snacks you’d never expect to have on a mountain, such as Nutella, Pringles and Popcorn .Many people had brought crisps with them up the mountain, it was funny to see all these bloated crisp bags. I had second thoughts about opening them up but eventually I did.

We did face serious challenges such as altitude sickness, diarrhoea, and the ongoing battle of keeping warm, BUT thankfully we always had hot water bottles at night to keep us warm during the cold nights. And every morning we got to choose between hot cocoa, coffee, tea, and more. All the meals were delicious, especially dinner 3 course meals always included soups, appetisers and drinks.

But when we eventually arrived.

Little Meru, we gazed at the wondrous scenery, everything felt peaceful and like it was a reward. The sky was endless and the view of the world beneath us was calm and tiny. I could only look at the sea of clouds in front of me. I felt something I had never felt before. I was at peace with myself and the rest, but of course, it didn’t last long because there is always drama! We had accomplished our goal. Together.
