Well, what an incredible feat?! Last week 20 members of the BISA school community scaled Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. With 13 students and 3 teachers reaching Uhuru Peak, 1 reaching Stellar Point and 3 more conquering Gilman’s Point, this is the largest group to date. We have made BISA history!
We knew that this adventure would test our limits and push us way beyond our comfort zone and it surely did. The summit day climb demands stamina, commitment, and resilience - we had to dig deep.
Lulling us into a bit of a false sense of security, the journey begins in the lush forest and works its way through the cloud-covered moorland, after which the terrain then transitions again into a rocky, open, and somewhat barren landscape. But we had our snacks, our kit and each other so this we were feeling pretty good about.
Then the air grows thinner, and the challenges build-up, but the Y10 climbers were not to be deterred. With the unwavering support of Babalu, his guides, and porters, on Day 4 we navigated the steep slopes of the mountain, both up and down with determination and true grit. Never before has taken your shoes off felt so good!!!
An enormous thank you to everyone who supported us in our climb. We have learned a lot about ourselves, each other and what it means to push.
