You may have heard that the UK is hosting a summit called COP26 which is seen as being really important if climate change is to be brought under control. The COP26 event is a global United Nations summit about climate change and how countries are planning to tackle it.
COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and will be attended by countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) - a treaty agreed in 1994. This is its 26th time of meeting. COP26 is taking place in Glasgow between 31st October and 12th November 2021 and any decisions made could lead to big changes to our everyday lives.
At BISA every geography lesson for the last two weeks has started with 10 minutes looking at the threats to the planet and the different ways that people around the globe are aiming to reduce carbon emissions and look after the ecosystems. We have looked at how scientists in Singapore are bringing coral reefs back to life using lego bricks, how countries are promising to use only electric cars, promises to stop deforestation by 2030, and how Tanzania is looking at creating more green energy through using solar panels.

The Flipflopi Team visited BISA last week to work with our students on how to continue taking action against single-use plastics. Our BISA campuses are single-use-plastic-free zones and we have long been committed to playing our part in tackling this global problem.
Alongside the Flipflop team, our students did a local clean-up to collect plastic and waste around the school. They were then shown ways of reusing and recycling, including using what they had collected for a 'Trashion Show'. The students were inspired and fired up with a renewed passion for our plastic revolution!
