As mocks are in full swing at the beginning of this term, we see our Year 11 and Year 13 Sociology students take on the challenge of exams and put their minds and pens to the test. They are tested on the knowledge they have built up in the last year and a half, answering questions about society, the media, family, religion, various sociological perspectives, and research methods (to name a few). Their essay writing skills and time management are also put to the test; a battle that they have been preparing for in lessons and perfecting over the Christmas break.
After the mock exams have been completed our Year 11s will be finishing off the final topic of crime and deviance followed by extensive revision in preparation for the final examinations. The Year 13s will complete research methods and have their final weeks of revision in school before they go off for study leave. We have come a long way, and it has not been an easy journey; but our students have prevailed and shown us what dedication and perseverance can truly do.
The field of sociology is devoted to studying the development and structure of human society and social behaviuor. Sociology students explore patterns of social interaction, the importance of culture, and how society impacts human behaviour. Sociology prepares students to succeed in their future careers. For example, by writing essays, students hone communication, research, and analysis skills. Careers in sociology offer many paths for professionals in industries such as business, education, and health. Graduates with a degree in sociology can pursue careers like market research analyst and mental health counselor. Individuals can also teach high school classes or earn a doctorate to teach college courses.
