Work Experience at Gran Melia

"Never had I thought of ever working in the hospitality industry when I thought about my career. Maybe it’s because I never understood what it really was. I used to think that it was just about making bookings and reservations for guests, but of course I was wrong and I didn’t realize there are so many aspects involved. I learned this when once I gained experience at Gran Melia.

Gran Melia is a big hotel organization here in Arusha. I was lucky enough to get a placement there for my work experience. I worked as a guest experience assistant. I must say I have enjoyed working there beyond expression. Having the opportunity to meet new faces and communicate with professionals, such as chefs and hotel managers, at work was a great experience.

I was shocked to be able to apply some of my knowledge from the BTEC Business Extended Diploma course that I just completed. I am grateful I did the BTEC course because it is very practical and has made it easy for me to easily adopt systems used in the hotel. I remember learning about certain things used in hotels during my units. It was neat to apply what I learned in real life.

I have gained so much interest in the hospitality industry! Maybe I might run a business in the hospitality industry one day.
