6th March 2023
Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. We want to see more children with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.
Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.
This year, BISA celebrated World Book Day on Friday 3rd March. Students and teachers from Early Years all the way up to Secondary dressed up as beloved book characters and took part in many fun, exciting activities all celebrating the wonderful world of books and stories. Here are some highlights from the EYFS and Primary celebrations:
Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a crucial difference to their future success and it’s fun for all involved. This storytelling can be done in so many ways. This year we were delighted to be joined by Marion from Happy Yoga Tanzania who led wonderful storytelling yoga sessions for our Early Years and Primary students.
We also enjoyed a World Book Day healthy breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, banana bread and carrot cake together before posing in our photobooth and enjoying a costume parade! We then took part in lots of fun activities with our teachers and specialists, celebrating the wonderful world of reading!

Thank you to all the teachers, staff, parents and children for such a memorable day!
