At the Kisongo Campus, maths lovers united for an unforgettable World Maths Day/Pi Day celebration filled with excitement, creativity, and a splash of competitive spirit! The school’s campus transformed into a mathematical playground where students engaged in various fun, challenging, and mind-boggling activities.
The day kicked off with an Escape Room Challenge, where students had to solve math puzzles to ‘unlock’ themselves from tricky scenarios. Their teamwork, problem-solving skills, and mathematical abilities were put to the test.
Then, our Kiswahili Math Challenges saw students complete tasks while embracing the language. It was a fusion of culture and numbers, encouraging learners to think on their feet and apply their math skills in creative ways.
The Sporting Challenges brought math to the playing field as students competed in various games that required quick calculations and strategic thinking.
One of the day’s biggest hits was the Real-Life Supermarket Sweep Game Show, The Mental Maths Mini-Market, where students dashed around a makeshift supermarket, calculating totals, comparing prices, and making budget-friendly decisions to complete their shopping lists. It was a true test of practical math skills under pressure!
The grand finale took learning outside the classroom, with an engaging afternoon of Math in the Car Park and Swimming Pool. From estimating distances, weight and measurements to playing number-based pool games, the students demonstrated that math truly is everywhere.
But the fun didn’t stop there! The winners of each challenge earned a sweet yet cheeky prize: a ‘pi’ to hit some of their friends and even teachers! Laughter echoed across the school as pies were enthusiastically (and gently) delivered, marking the end of a wildly successful day of learning.
World Maths Day was a massive success, showcasing that math is not just about numbers on a page.

World Maths Day was a fantastic celebration of learning, teamwork, and fun! Our Year 1 and 2 children took on the role of teachers, guiding and supporting the FS2 children through a variety of engaging mathematical activities. From measuring lengths, heights, and weights to building two-digit numbers with tens and ones, the older children showcased their skills while helping their younger peers develop confidence in maths.
The day was filled with hands-on learning as the children created patterns and shapes using blocks and peg boards, made beautiful shape pictures, and enjoyed a lively game of snakes and ladders. A highlight of the day was our role-play shopping activity, where the children used real-life addition and subtraction skills to work out amounts of money. To make it even more exciting, we incorporated Swahili into our buying and selling, adding a wonderful cultural twist to the experience!
It was a joy to see the children take charge of their learning and work together so enthusiastically. Well done to all our young mathematicians
