Yale Young African Scholars

27th October 2022

Yale Young African Scholars is an esteemed enrichment program aimed at providing the continents’ most promising, academically gifted, future leaders a platform to connect with Yale alumni and map out their respective futures. The program is delivered over a two week period and is administered either online or in person.

The program is split into two distinct courses; YYAS and YYGS. As with Covid19 greatly influencing the state of travel, our students who were successful in applying were only able to attend the online program for the past two years. The experience was still very insightful and incredibly beneficial.

Don’t just take my word for it, two of our current year 13s attended this year’s sessions and had this to say:

Jaqueline Sweetbert, “Being able to take part in YYAS was an eye opening experience. The program was enlightening especially for a student who was confused about their future. It honestly opened new doors for me, ones I didn’t even know existed and illuminated my path forward. In that sense the YYAS program is unique and I am thankful I got the chance to attend.”

Mihika Malhotra, “YYAS was something I was not interested in at first but when I got to know what it actually consisted of- I was beyond thrilled to apply and get selected. This program in various ways has prepared me for university life as we had interactive discussions about scholarships, financial aid and how to overcome the hardships that students generally face in universities. Not only did I get to interact with mentors, but also students from around Africa. Overall, it was a really fun experience and I had a lot to take away from all the sessions.”
