Year 4 set off on their incredible Junior Dragon Award adventure with boundless enthusiasm! We hit the dusty trail and found ourselves immersed in the breath-taking beauty of the Maasai Steppe. The children had their Dragon award goals in sight, and they tackled them with determination and grit. Many of them faced their very first nights away from home, experiencing the thrill of sleeping in tents under the open sky.
Our Year 4 class served as a shining example of teamwork and cooperation as they joined forces to conquer challenges and offer support to one another. Curiosity filled the air as the kids bombarded our Maasai guides with a barrage of questions, eager to learn about the secrets of making a fire, distinguishing between plants with healing properties and those that are poisonous, and crafting Maasai toothbrushes. We delved into the fascinating process of leather making and even created our own beaded keychains with the guidance of our newfound Maasai friends.
As we journeyed across the rocky terrain, Year 4 discovered the true meaning of endurance, encouraging one another every step of the way as they summited Mount Oldonyo Lendare. But perhaps the most significant lesson of all was the realisation that they are capable of far more than they ever imagined. They returned home, a bit dusty but overflowing with newfound confidence, and a treasure trove of stories about hiking, campfires, and deepened friendships.
We are immensely grateful to the Mukuru Training Center for their exceptional hospitality and making our first expedition into a resounding success.
