Computer Science

Here at BISA, our students use technology integrated across the curriculum. The following pieces have been written by our Year 4 students using the Google for Education Suite. Enjoy their work!

Chocolate Investigation

For our science experiment we looked at melting points and freezing points of different materials. For our experiment we tested the melting point of chocolate. We used a thermometer to measure the temperature, a stopwatch to measure the time and a ruler to measure the height of the water. We poured different temperatures of water into different foil tins. Each team had a different temperature of water poured into their tin.

The chocolate was put into a separate tin and the teams had to break the chocolate into pieces and place them in their tins so it was easy to melt the chocolate. I was in team one and we had the coldest water. Our chocolate did not melt quickly because the temperature of our water was the coldest but Team three had the hottest water so theirs melted in under two minutes because of their temperature which was at 58 degrees celsius.

After we recorded which water temperature melted the chocolate the fastest, Mrs. Pulei poured the same temperature as group three’s water and since it was taking too long we went to lunch. After we came back from lunch the chocolate was still not melted so Mrs. Pulei brought hot water in a kettle to put in our tins. We waited a bit and the chocolate melted so Mrs. Pulei put corn flakes into our container. We put the chocolate into cupcake tins and put it in the freezer.

THE YUMMY EXPERIMENT

Today we did a science expiriment. It was so yummy. We started with chocolate and put it in a tin bowl. After that we put water in the other tin bowl. Then we put the tin bowl with chocolate into the one with water. The first group's temperature was 13, the second group was 13 and the third group had 53.

Then we timed how many min it would take for them to melt. Group three’s chocolate melted quicker. After that we put cereal in the chocolate. Finally we put it in a freezer and went to do computing and at home time we got them back. It tasted like hard chocolate with cereal, IT WAS THE BEST EXPERIMENT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

OUR WATER FILTER

In Y4P we learnt the process of filtering water. You will need a funnel, dirty water, sticks, rocks, dirt, & sand. First, rocks, dirt, & sand. Then we got the dirty water & poured it in the funnel.
