Year 5 Junior Dragon Silver Expedition

5th March 2023

Our visit to Karatu was fantastic! We learned a lot and had a great time! Our journey there was jam-packed with laughter, joy, and educational opportunities. The campsite was lovely and spacious enough for us to enjoy playing, the teachers were quite helpful when needed, and our drivers were extremely kind. Every day and night, we had enjoyable activities and had fantastic chats, which helped us to get to know each other better. Visiting the tribes was a fascinating experience since we learned about their histories and traditions firsthand. It was incredible to experience maize grinding with stones, hunting birds and searching for wild honey in the bush with the Hadzabe, getting wet and dirty at Lake Eyasi, and conquering the difficult walk to the Elephant Caves and waterfalls, seeing how the Datoga tribe blacksmiths manufactured tools by melting metal, and not to mention trying on and decorating Iraqw traditional wedding skirts.

We had a fantastic time, and returning to Arusha on the last day was not as exciting as the first day when we left. Visiting Karatu and learning about the Rift Valley was an incredible experience that was well worth every minute of our time there. Well done to all Year 5 students for their courage and enthusiasm while exploring these new cultures away from home.

A huge thank you to Mauly Tours for giving us such a fantastic experience!
