Our trip to Karatu was wonderful! We had a terrific time and learned a lot! We had a ton of fun, laughter, and educational possibilities during our trip there. The staff and guides were very helpful when needed, the campsite was beautiful and roomy enough for us to enjoy playing, and our drivers were quite gracious. We had great conversations and fun activities every day and night that made it easier for us to get to know one another better. We had the opportunity to learn about the tribes' histories and customs first hand, which made our visit a fascinating experience.
Experiencing things like grinding coffee with stones, going bird hunting and collecting wild honey in the jungle with the Hadzabe, getting muddy and wet at Lake Eyasi, and completing the strenuous trek to the Elephant Caves and Waterfalls; witnessing the blacksmiths of the Datoga tribe forging implements out of molten metal; and not to mention donning and embellishing traditional Iraqw wedding skirts.
It was not as exciting to return to Arusha on the last day as it was leaving on the first, but we still had a great time. It was an amazing experience and well worth every minute of our time spent in Karatu learning about the Rift Valley. Bravo to every Year 5 student for their bravery and excitement travelling far from home to experience these new cultures.
