Year 9s Dive into 'Romeo and Juliet

1st March 2024

‘Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?’

Our Year 9s are spending this term studying the famous Shakespeare tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ We started off the term learning about how Shakespeare is still relevant in society today, from the plethora of words he coined to the content and structure of hip-hop. We’ve looked at his use of puns and oxymoron's and written our own. We’ve gotten creative, acting out scenes and re-writing many of them into modern day language. The students have analysed Friar Lawrence’s grand plan of faking Juliet’s death and written argumentative speeches to try and convince their classmates on whether or not she should have gone along with it.
