Zanzibar Adventures for Year 8

7th June 2017

Year 8 enjoy Enrichment Week on the beautiful island of Zanzibar. Mr Waller gave us an update on their trip:

"After a very easy flight out to Zanzibar, we were met by our guides Amore and Rashid at the airport. On the bus to the hotel, they explained the importance of respecting the holy month of Ramadan. This included not eating or drinking on the streets and ensuring we dressed modestly. They were very knowledgeable and friendly and looked after us very well on our trip.

After checking into the hotel, we went on a short walking tour around Stone Town. The locals were very friendly and I have never had 'mwalimu' said to me more often! We got some great photographs before having an early night.

On the second day we had a great, if not a bit tiring, day out. After a good breakfast, we took a boat to Changuu Island. Also known as Prison Island, we learned that disobedient slaves were once kept there. We got to see the prison cells and learn the history of the prison. Once the tour had finished, we got to see the huge Aldabra tortoises that live on the island. Amazingly, one is 194 years old!

Later in the day we did a Spice Tour, which the students really enjoyed and found very informative. We arrived at our beautiful hotel on the night and spent the next day relaxing on the beach and around the pool, having fun and eating the delicious food that was on offer. This was a great way to finish what was a fantastic trip."
